NGAMOTU SEMI-FINALS SUTHERLAND; THOMSON FORMER WINS AT THE 22nd EAGLE TO FINISH MATCH The semi-finals of the New Plymouth Golf Club’s championship at Ngamotu on Saturday provided two great struggles, the Sutherland-Johns game going to the 22nd hole before the former won. A great birdie four at the 18th saw Johns square the game again, and the pair proceeded to the 19th. Here Johns had to sink an awkward 6ft. putt to keep the game alive, but proved equal to the occasion. The next two were halved in fives, but the end came - at the 22nd, where Sutherland followed two great woods into the wind by running down a 16ft. putt for an eagle three to win the game. F. E. Quin was two up on T. A. Thomson at the turn, but then Thomson reduced the leeway by taking the tenth. The next four were halved, but then ■ Thomson took the 15th and 16th with fours.
