MR. DICKIE AT MOKOIA
NATIONAL GOVERNMENT POLICY. When Messrs. Johnson and H. Clerks moved a vote of thanks to Mr. H. G. Dickie, the National Government candidate for the Patea seat, after he had addressed more than 60 electors at Mokoia on Friday night Messrs. Kirkby and Legge moved an amendment conveying thanks and confidence in Mr. Dickie and the Government. The amendment was carried unanimously. Mr. D. Richardson presided. Reference to the success of the Government at the last election in Great Britain was made by Mr. Dickie, who said he felt sure that the electors of New Zealand would show the same confidence jn the New Zealand Government. Mr. Dickie outlined the emergency legislation passed during the last four years and explained why the legislation was required, tie dealt with the. Government’s fulfilment of its promise to restore salary cuts and pensions as soon as the Budget was balanced and referred to policy matters including the recent increase of post office facilities. The other parties said they would remove the exchange immediately, but this could not be done without serious consequence. It would have to come off very gradually, said Mr. Dickie when giving his reasons for supporting the Bill indemnifying the banks against loss. GRAND THEATRE, HAWERA. DOUBLE FEATURE PROGRAMME. “Three on a Honeymoon,” Fox Film’s new romance, will be screened at the Grand Theatre to-night. The screen play is an adaptation of the novel, “Prome- ' nade Deck,” by Ishbel Ross. As a highly successful seller, the book has enjoyed a popular vogue among fiction readers for some time. The film, featuring Sally Eilers and Zasu Pitts, is even more humorous than the book. Charles Starrett, who will be remembered for his excellent work in “Mr. Skitch,” plays the . i: C»11«r
leading masculine role opposite Sally y Eilers. Zasu Pitts supplies the comedy e in another one of her uproarious roles. - The other members of the cast are Hene rietta Crosman, John Mack Brown, Irene - Hervey, Russell Simpson and Cornelius y Keefe. - The second feature on .the programme y is “Murder in Trinidad.’’ Thrilling and - absorbing, the film takes you through a s strange and startling maze of drama, ros mance and mystery into the vast swamp r of Caroni in the heart of Trinidad. Nigel Bruce as Detective Lynch is admirable. i Heather Angel and Douglas Walton are i; charmingly cast as the two lovers who ; are constantly in the shadow of death. . Victor Jory, Murray Kinnell, J. Carrol , Naish, Claude King, Pat Somerset, Fran- ; cis Ford, John Davidson and Noble Johnson acquit themselves creditably. The s final episode of Buck Jones in “The Red , Rider” will also be screened. OPERA HOUSE, HAWERA. ' “CARDINAL RICHELIEU” COMING. 1 “Cardinal Richelieu,” a George Arliss ; attraction, will open at the Opera House , on Wednesday, for three nights and two ■ matinees.
