CHURCH PARADE HELD

FIRST TARANAKI REGIMENT. Officers and men of the Taranaki Regiment paraded at St. Andrew’s Church, New Plymouth, yesterday at the morning service. Lieut.-Colonel F. S. Varnham, officer commanding, was. in. charge of 33 of all ranks. The band, under the leadership of Lieutenant F. W, McLeod, played the accompaniments for the hymns. ' , The Rev. J. D, McLennan Wilson took as his text “Honour all men, love the brotherhood, fear God and honour the King,” and discussed the many conflicting loyalties that confronted-men. He discussed the demands of politics on loyalty, and described war. as a horrible business, but said he thought it was necessary. A man should abide by as many loyalties as possible, he said, but the spiritual loyalty, to God should always predominate. The lessons were read by Captain Harford, Q.A.M.R., and Sergeant Lealand.
