FINE BOWLING FIGURES

CHRISTENSEN IN FORM PARKINSON ALSO DOES WELL. OLD BOYS JUST AHEAD OF PARK. Only three runs separated the first innings scoies of the New Plymouth Old Boys and Western Park teams in the match at Pukekura Park on Saturday. Old Boys batted first and made 130, to which Western Park replied with 127. In the second innings Old Boys had made 12 runs without loss when stumps were drawn. The feature of the day’s play was the bowling of Christensen, who for several overs bowled at his best. In five balls he took four wickets, including the hat trick. The last ball of one over bowled A. Ewart and the first two balls of his next saw the dismissal of Allen' and Parkinson. For Western Park Parkinson bowled 12.5 overs for 39 runs and six wickets.

Gilbert, opening with Christensen, wasted no time and made 15 before being bowled with the score at 19., Birch and Christensen scored steadily off all the bowlers and were prepared to take risks. The runs mounted until at 62 Birch was well caught by Wilson in the outfield. Christensen, Lash, Alexander and Papps formed a procession that was halted by Stevens and Wallace. Stevens luckily snicked two fours just clear of slips. With the score at 88 for seven wickets Medley joined Wallace. Taking every opportunity of scoring they showed good defence until Medle- was caught. The innings closed when Wallace was caught after a fine display that served to prevent a complete rout. Western Park’s opening was less promising than Old Boys’. When two wickets were down for 14 runs Duff and A. Ewart adopted aggressive tactics to all the bowlers, fours being frequent. Despite nearly running each other out they saved the situation and the third wicket fell at 65 when Duff was bowled. Ewart continued brightly until Christensen during a good over badly beat him with the last ball. Ewart gave a chanceless exhibition. Christensen’s next over saw three wickets fall in four balls, but as in Old Boys’ case the later men came to the rescue. Wilson, who was uncertain at first, but soon settled down, was associated with Carroll in the addition of 29 runs by bright cricket. When Stapleton came in 10 runs were needed but Stapleton in the excitement ran Wilson out three runs short of Old Boys’ score.

Medley was enterprising during the three overs bowled in Old Boys’ second innings. Details are:—

SCHOOL B’S BOUNDARY SCORING. Kiwi failed signally either to subdue the High School B batsmen or to withstand the School attack at Western Park, when School won by an innings and 170 runs. High School, batting first, rattled on 221 for six wickets declared. McLean made 59 retired, including 11 fours, Damey 53 retired, Fluker 32, Moorhead 17, Berg 15, Flannagan 17 and Millei - 12. In reply Kiwi could reach only 35 in the first innings, of which Canty scored 12 and 16 in the second. Revell, with two for 18, was the best of the Kiwi bowlers. Darney, five wickets for three runs, Miller three for 15 and five for five, and Fluker one for five and two for nine, bowled well for School B. SCHOOL A WINS NARROWLY. High scoring by both teams characterised the match between High School A and Kia Ora at the High School gully ground. Kia Ora raised the excellent total of 180 runs, which School A just headed as time was called with the loss of nine wickets for 184 runs. Morris, 37, was the highest scorer for Kia Ora. Ulenberg, 55, and Keller, 37, were School’s best batsmen. ... J r . ;
