Sympathy with Mr. A. J. Corkill in his illness was expressed yesterday at the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board of which he is a member. Mr. W. P. Okey, New Plymouth, is attending a meeting at Palmerston North of the North Island Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association.

The Bishop of Waikato, the Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington, will visit Inglewood on Sunday next and will administer the sacrament of confirmation at St. Andrew’s Church.

Bandsman W. Martin was elected a life member of the Inglewood Municipal Band at the annual meeting on Monday. Mr. H. Patterson said Bandsman Martin had completed 46 or 47 years of active service with the band.

Mr. Nigel Webster, New Plymouth, at the invitation of the British Broadcasting Corporation, London, recently spoke over the air on the Oxford-All Black football match. Listeners at New Plymouth and Napier report having heard the talk.

Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, a former Minister of Marine and Customs in New Zealand, who has been living abroad for some years, arrived at Auckland by the Rangitata yesterday on a holiday visit to the Dominion. •

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. J. W. Winfield, Inglewood, was passed at the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board yesterday. The chairman, Mr. P. E. Stainton, said Mr. Winfield had been a member of the board for some years and was respected by all the members. Dr. G. F. Rich, medical superintendent of the New Plymouth public hospital, will leave New Plymouth about December 7 on six months’ leave of absence to make a study tour of Europe. At the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board yesterday the chairman, Mr. P. E. Stainton, offered Dr. Rich the good wishes of members. Dr. Rich expressed thanks for the cordial relationship that had always existed between himself and the board during his six years’ association with it. He hoped his visit would prove a valuable education and increase his ability to give service to the board.
