HIGH SCHOOL CONTROL

STRATFORD BOARD’S MEETING. WINDOWS NEEDING ATTENTION. The need for replacing the windows in a room at the Stratford Technical High School was remarked by the principal, Mr. A. H. R. Amess, in his report last night to the meeting of the Board of Managers of the school last night. The painting arranged for last meeting, Mr. Amess said, was nearly completed, and plans and specifications were being prepared by the Public Works Department for the . erection of the new metal work block. The windows in room 10 were very bad and it was doubtful whether they could wait another year before they were replaced. On a windy day the draught through the room was considerable and he thought the board might make somfe effort to have the extra money spent; on those windows during the Christmas holidays. If that were done the greater part of the repairs to the windows would be completed. After discussion, in which the principal gave details of discomfort caused by the draughts and unexpected falling out of window panes, it was decided to ask the department to make a grant sufficiently large to replace the windows in the old iron frames. Leakages in the electric wiring system of the main building and the fact that much of the wiring did not conform to present-day regulations led the board at its last meeting to decide on reconditioning. Two tenders were received on specifications drawn up by the borough electrical inspector, and that of Mr. J. J. Sullivan was accepted. The action of an inspection committee in having the motor of the baths pump rewired was confirmed. A welcome was extended by tire chairman to Mr. Turnbull, who took his scat for the first time on the board. Authority was given to purchase six 1 new balances for the laboratory, while a sub-committee is to report upon the matter of effecting repairs to a gas producing apparatus. There were present Mr. J. McAllister (chairman). Mrs. N. Gibson, Messrs. H. Bishop, J. H. Thomas, D. R. Turnbull, A. Ferguson, and E. S. Rutherfurd.
