MAORIS’ PRIVILEGES
TAKING LIQUOR FROM HOTELS. POSER FOR LABOUR CANDIDATE. An unusual question was asked the Rev. F. L. Frost, official Labour candidate for the New Plymouth seat, when he was giving an election address at the Moturoa school last night. A Maori, Mr. J. McDonald, asked Mr. Frost whether he was in favour of granting Maoris equal privileges with pakehas in taking liquor away from hotels. “The pr f 1 5en _ Government has not granted us those privileges,” said Mr. McDonald. “I am certainly in favour of granting Maoris equal privileges with white people,” said Mr. Frost. “I will not say what I think on the question of taking liquor from hotels, but I think it is better that Maoris should be able to take liquor from'hotels while stiff sober rather, than to get ‘tanked up’ on the premises.
