Australian Wattles.
“The very word ‘wattles’ spells Australia,” writes Edith Coleman in her charming booklet “Come Back in Wattle Time,” published by Robertson and Mullens Ltd., Melbourne. There are over 800 species of wattles known, and of these 450 are purely Australian. What the fem is to New Zealand the wattle is to the Commonwealth! It grows in every part of Australia, sometimes “in waves of gold as far as the eye can reach,” at others struggling as dwarf plants in arid areas, but always a thing of beauty in the springtime. The booklet contains much informar tion of the habits and troubles of the wattles, it is beautifully illustrated and contains a list of the varieties that are known to do well under cultivation, jn New Zealand as well as in Australia.
