DISCUSSION WITH LESLIE HOWARD.
Professor Max Reinhardt has decided that immediately after the premiere of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at London shortly, he will return-to Hollywood to make his second picture for Warner Bros. Although no definite announcement of its title has yet been made, it is understood that the selection will lie between Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” and Marc Connelly’s “Green Pastures,” for which, it is stated, the highest fee for film rights ever known has been paid. Leslie Howard recently arrived > at Castle Leopoldscom, near Salzburg, as a guest'of Professor Reinhardt. It is understood that he has come to discuss with Reinhardt the possibility of filming “Hamlet” at London or Hollywood. Mr. Howard also discussed the possibility of his appearance on the German stage under Reinhardt’s management. The producer owns a theatre at Vienna and has invited Mr. Howard to appear there either in his production of “Hamlet” or in a new stage version of “The Scarlet Pimpernel,” the film that made Mr. Howard popular at Vienna. Leslie Howard knows German perfectly, and has a great many friends among Viennese actors.
Greta Garbo is at present on holiday in Europe, and is understood to have accepted an invitation from Professor Reinhardt to be his guest during the Salzburg Festival, and witness his openair productions of “Faust” and “Everyman.” Reinhardt has expressed a wish to produce a screen “Faust” on his return to America in the autumn, and has named the Swedish star as the ideal Gretchen.
