OTAKEHO GIRL GUIDES

BIRTHDAY BANQUET HELD. Members of the Otakeho Scout, Guide and Brownie company spent a birthday evening at the Otakeho Hall on Wednesday. The supper room was decorated by the joint committee and the tables were laden with good things provided by parents and committee. Mrs. Nicholls, president of the Guide committee, and Mrs. S. H. le Fleming, welcomed the visitors, and bouquets were presented to Mrs. J. Houston and the Rev. H. Cottom by Jean Bpwie, to Mrs. Nicholls by Vera Ronganui and to Mrs. Bell by Pauline Mitchell. The candles on the cake were lit by Master Foreman, the youngest Scout, and Lois Richards, the youngest Guide, blew them out. Mrs. Houston gave a short address announcing that Miss M. Mackie would soon leave to be married. She regretted her loss to the movement but wished her every happiness. Miss Mackie had given splendid service. Musical honours were given and Miss Mackie expressed appreciation of the good wishes. Mrs. Houston thanked the committee for assistance during the year and for the birthday part: Mr. Cottom endorsed the remarks of Mrs. Houston. Five Brownies were enrolled by Mrs. Houston and service stars were presented to one-year and two-year members of the Brownie pack. Mr. Cottom presented several Scout badges. Games and .competitions were held, prizes being won by Mrs. P. Instone, Miss Nicholls and Barbara Kimber.
