PROMINENCE IN A.M.P. SOCIETY.
VISITORS TO NEW PLYMOUTH. . Prominent officials of the Australian Mutual Provident Society will arrive at New Plymouth to-day and to-morrow in the course of a tour of New Zealand. Messrs. A. W. Sneddon, F.1.A., general manager of the society, W. I. Ikin, manager for New Zealand, and H. L. Cranwick, new business supervisor for Australasia, will come from Waitomo to-day and go to’the North Egmon't hostel with Mr. C. Denny Brown for lunch. They will be taken to see Pukekura Park before they leave to-morrow morning. On the sime day Sir William Hunt, chairman of the New Zealand board, the Hon. Sir Frederick H. Tout, M.L.C., a director at the head office, and his son, Mr. F. H. Tout, will arrive. Mr. Sneddon, who was appointed general manager last November, has a wide actuarial experience and knowledge of the society’s affairs. He was born at
Wallsend, New South Wales, in 1880 and entered the society’s service in 1897, so that he has been nearly 39 years with it In 1908 Mr. Sneddon was transferred to the London office, so that, he might more easily gain the degree of Fellow of the Institute of Accountants. He was retransferred to the head office and was engaged in the actuarial department until December, 1926, when he was appointed manager of the industrial department. From that time he was successively secretary (1930), manager for New South Wales (1931), and chief inspector and secretary (1933). Sir Frederick Tout received his knighthood this year. As well as, being a prominent grazier he is a solicitor in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, a member of the State Legislative Council and was for some years president of the Graziers’ Association of New South Wales. He represented Australia at the Ottawa Conference.
