REVIVAL OF LIBERALISM
PRINCIPLES OF OLD PARTY MR. J. T. HOGAN FOR WANGANUI. FORMER MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT. NEW CANDIDATE’S ANNOUNCEMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association, Wanganui, Last Night. Mr. James T. Hogan has decided to contest the Wanganui seat in the Liberal colours. Supporting the principles of that party as laid down by Messrs. Ballance and Seddon and Sir Joseph Ward. Mr. Hogan represented Wanganui, supporting the Seddon Administration, from 1905 until 1911. He won the Rangitikei seat in the 1928 election, defeating Mr. W. S. Glenn by a majority of more than 1000. He lost the seat in 1931 to Mr. A. Stuart, the present member, by a margin of seven votes. His decision will make a four-cornered contest at Wanganui between Messrs. Bain (National Government), Veitch (Democrat), Cotterill (Labour) and Hogan (Liberal). MR. 11. HOLLAND WITHDRAWS. SON TO CONTEST HIS SEAT. Christchurch, Last Night. Mr. H. Holland, M.P V to-day announced his withdrawal from the contest for the Christchurch North seat, which he has held since 1925, at the forthcoming general election. His announcement was that acting on medical advice he had reluctantly decided to withdraw his candidature. The seat will be contested for the Government by Mr. Holland’s son, Mr. S. G. Holland.
