OBJECTION RAISED
DESTRUCTOR AT WESTOWN PROTEST OF FRANKLEIGH PARK Objection to the proposed New Plymouth borough rubbish incinerator being set up at Westown was raised last night by the Frankleigh Park Progressive Association. Mr. F. Harrison presided in the absence of the chairman over a fair attendance. . Protest was raised principally on account of reasons of health. It was stated that if the incinerator was as good as it was held to be it could without harm be erected at the site of the present rubbish dump. It was desirable to have it in an isolated place, particularly because of the great devaluation that would take place in the land round it. Mr. W. Sedgewicke reported about regrassing the plots in Govett Avenue. He had attempted to get in touch with Mr. C. Clarke, the borough engineer, but the matter was still in hand. Mr. C. H. Wynyard had been deputed to request the council to allocate more debentures for local purchase. He had interviewed the town clerk, Mr. F. T. Bellringer, who had told him that there were at present no debentures offered. On the motion of Mr. Kirk it was decided to ask the council to patch with tar-sealing the edges of Frankley Road from the top of the hill to the Govett Avenue junction. Members were urged by Mr. A. S. Allen to support the health stamp campaign. , , ' . A member stated that he understood that as soon as- weather permitted the stock route giving easy access, to Westown would be opened. The impromptu speech contest was postponed. A vote of thanks was passed to the chair.
