TUNA GIFT EVENING

PRESENTATIONS BY RESIDENTS. A gift evening was held in the Tuna schoolroom on Friday in honour of Miss F. Harrison and Mr. W. Steele, who are shortly to be married. The evening was spent in dancing, music being supplied by Mr. H. Humphries, Tariki, Extras were given by Mrs. H. Downs and Mr. C. Henderson. Novelty dances were won by Mrs. Bryant and Mr. Trott (mystery dance) and Mrs. Downs and Mr. W. Bell (spot waltz). Mr. J. H.'Kirkby presented the young couple with gifts on behalf of the residents with the good wishes of all present. Mr. Steele thanked the residents for their generosity and good wishes and Mr. Harrison expressed the thanks of his daughter. On behalf of the basketball club Miss E. Wellington presented Miss Harrison with a silver-mounted fruitstand, and wished her all success and happiness in the future. Personal News. Mrs. Steele, Hamilton, is the guest of Mrs. Harrison for the Steele-Harrison wedding. ELTHAM TALKIES. KINGDOM OF CLAW AND FANG. “Baboona,” a record in picture and sound, of a trip through Kenya colony, Belgian Congo, Tanganyika and the Sudan, will be screened at the Eltham talkies to-night and to-morrow night. Some of the most interesting sights in animal and native life have been faithfully recorded by the camera. Apart from being highly educative, it has many unbelievably thrilling sequences, and it leaves one wondering how it was managed. The spectator can rest assured it is all genuine, as the whole film was definitely taken as seen. The second picture, “When a Man's a Man,” is the picturisation of Harold Bell Wright’s famous novel of the old west, which has been read by, and thrilled millions. George O’Brien, the popular western star, and Dorothy Wilson have the star roles.
