DEMOCRAT CAMPAIGN

DR. ADAMS AT HURLEYVTLLE. An attentive hearing was given to Dr. G. J. Adams, Democrat candidate for the Patea seat, when he spoke at Hurleyville on Tuesday night. Dr. Adams spoke of the Democrat Party as a revival of the Liberal Party. He discoursed on the exchange rate and the effect it had had on the. national debt, also on the Democrat Party’s national health policy. Two of the main points of the Democrat Party were the removal of the sales tax and the gradual removal of exchange, which would result in the reabsorption into industry of the majority of the unemployed. Farming colleges to train New Zealand youth would be established. Answering a question Dr. Adams said he favoured the Arbitration Court who modifications. He also stated that the unemployment tax on women was not fair as women did not benefit in any way. Asked if he believed in immigration he said, “Yes, if British capital is used.” At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. R. G. Scown proposed a vote of thanks to Dr. Adams, which was carried by acclamation.
