The Rev. J. D. McLennan Wilson, minister of St. Andrew’s Church, New Plymouth, left yesterday to attend- the annual general assembly of the New Zealand Presbyterian Church. The Rev. A. H. Gould, minister of Knox Church, is also a delegate.

Mr. C. Hart, manager of the New Plymouth motor department of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society Ltd., will leave New Plymouth before the end of the month to take up a similar appointment at Christchurch.

The death has occurred at Whangarei of Mr. Edmund Simeon Barton, an early settler. Born at Reading, England, in 1854 Mr. Barton was the son of the late Professor C. H. Barton. He went with his parents to Australia at an early age. Mr. Barton left his home at Adelaide when only 14 and was employed on a cattle run in the Northern Territory for some years. Arriving in New Zealand over 50 years ago he was one of the original settlers when the Ballance Block, Wellington, was taken up. He farmed there successfully for some years and later farmed near Tariki, Taranaki. After his retirement Mr. Barton spent considerable time at Whangarei, usually spending the winter in the South Sea Islands. He was not married.
