HAWERA TRACK WORK
HORSES BACK "FROM TRENTHAM.
(By
“Limited.”)
There was little fast* work performed on the Hawera tracks yesterday morning. Gold-Gleam (Cook), whoisto. race at Bulls on Saturday, galloped four furlongs on the outside of the course proper in 53 3-ss. v Gold Gleam was well fancied for the five furlong race at Waverley on Monday, but after running prominently to the straight entrance tired under his big weight. At Bulls in a race over a similar distance he has 8.6 and with C. Sheild up will have 51b. allowance, carrying 8.1, so he can be expected to ■ make a better showing. Knockout (Monkley) galloped five furlongs in Im. 10s. Knockout- is shaping well and has made improvementlately. He invariably gallops better in company. Lowenberg and Fersen were given useful' pace work and the pair seem none the worse for their visit to Trentham. H. Wiggins is to ride Fersen in the New Zealand Cup. Tire two-year-olds Notium, Gay . Chief and Brilliancy alsp returned in great shape and were out doing light exercise. Ruri, who did not do much galloping before Waverley, looks all the better for his race and will, probably race at the, Waikato meeting bn the second day. J. Brown has an addition to his team, a two-year-old youngster by Laughing Prince from Happy Hit, the latter by Leighton from Kinsem, a good per-;; former some seasons ago, who is from,; Nicotine, a member of the Rau Rau fam-£ ily, will known in Taranaki. The young-| ster is a neat looking colt and .is the. property of the well-known sportsman,’ Mr. T. A. Duncan.
