FOOTBALLER TO LEAVE

STRATFORD CLUB’S FAREWELL. Tribute to the good work done for the Stratford Rugby Football Club by Mr. H. Woolletts as captain of the first junior team and secretary of the social committee was paid last night, when Mr. Woolletts was farewelled by club memmers before his departure on promotion for the east coast. Mr. Woolletts had given wonderful service to the club, said the president, Mr. C. Massey, and had done his duty in a way that made him an example for many another to follow. He had played the game on the field and off, and the club wished him every success. Mr. Massey presented him with a set of hairbrushes on behalf of the members. A great deal of the social success of the club this year had been due to Mr. Woollett’s, work, said Mr. G. Grace, junior coach, and as a player he had upheld the traditions of the club in playing clean, open football. He would have been a serious contender for senior honours next season. Mr. Grace congratulated him on his promotion. Mr. W. Rae, coach with Mr. Grace, Mr. A. Vivian, a member of the junior team, and Mr. D. C. Latham also spoke. In reply Mr. Woolletts praised the great work and fine spirit of the junior team and the help given by the coaches, Messrs. Grace and Rae, and Mr. Vivian, vice-captain. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr. R. S. Allen, job printing foreman of the Eltham Argus, was the recipient of a presentation from the staff on the eve of his departure to take up an appointment on the Petone Chronicle staff. Mr. A. W. Packard, managingeditor, referred to the happy relations that had always existed between Mr. Allen and the staff and the management. It was pleasing to know he was going to a position where there was considerable scope for advancement. Mr. A. Bridger also spoke. Mr. Cyril Carncross was farewelled by members of the Eltham Alpine Club prior to his departure for Christchurch to take up a position with the Defence Department. Mr. H. N. Murray conveyed the best wishes of members and hoped Mr. Carncross would be able to revisit Mount Egmont and Taranaki on periods of leave. Miss A. Coyne, Makahu, who went into the Stratford hospital at the beginning of the week for a minor operation, is progressing satisfactorily. ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS. The women of the Cardiff district in an effort to raise their quota for the Plunket centre propose holding a house-to-house canvass of the Cardiff, Mahoe and Lowgarth districts to-morrow. Those to whom the appeal is made may be assured that the need is great, that the utmost prudence is used in administering the funds and that the results achieved warrant the full extension of the society’s operations that resources will permit. “Hotel Fantastique,” a bright and colourful revue with a Stratford cast, will be staged in the town hall, Stratford, on November 28 and 29. All the numbers are entirely new and include dances, sketches, ballets and humoui.
