NEWS FROM MELBOURNE TRACK.

McConnell in his fall from Sir Muslin in Saturday’s hurdle at Moonee Valley was more seriously injured than was at first thought. An X-ray revealed a fractured spine in two places. J. McLaughlin, trainer of Epigram, is confined to his room with internal trouble which may necessitate a long rest. H. Skidmore will ride Epigram in the Cantala Stakes.
Limbohm and Country Party are expected from Sydney to-morrow. A. Mclntosh, trainer of Sporting Blood, stated to-day that the horse was not yet a certain runner in the Melbourne Cup. The Oaks candidate Lady Kooringal won to-day’s Kyneton Handicap from Loud Applause and Vital. Red Manfred was last. Perfect Idea was unplaced in the Novice Handicap. At Flemington Peter Pan did useful work to-day.
Gay Brooke ran three furlongs in 38%. Sylvandale, Berestoi, High Cross and Hot Shot did serviceable tasks. Celeriter ran four furlongs in 53 J /4S. A. Knox will ride Valiant Chief in the Derby. Melbourne Cup riders are: H. Olsen, Loud Applause; K. Voitre, Marabou; F. Shean, Sarcherie; J. Gorman, Buzzard King.
