EXHIBITION PLANS
WELLINGTON CENTENARY EVENT. SUPPORT OF MANUFACTURERS. By Telegraph—Prefes Association. Wellington, Last Night. The proposal to hold an exhibition as the principal feature of the centenary celebrations at Wellington in 1940 was fully discussed by the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association at the 40th annual meeting to-night. Initially several members were antagonistic to the exhibition, fears being expressed that if overseas manufacturers were invited to exhibit harm might be done to New Zealand manufacturing interests. Some members were at first opposed to an exhibition of international scope for that reason but finally were persuaded that local industry would come to no harm from the inclusion of outside competitors. In the end a motion was passed according the centenary committee the whole-hearted support of the association in whatever decision it might arrive at in its plans for an exhibition.
