STORMY WEATHER
IMPROVEMENT TO-DAY
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night.
The weather will be unsettled generally and stormy about and north of Cook Strait, says the 4 p.m. forecast. Rain may be expected in most districts, with heavy falls and considerable flooding in the North Island. Scattered falls only are likely in eastern districts of the South Island, and the weather will be mainly fair in Westland. Cold temperatures are to be expected with snow on some of the ranges. Conditions will r.ioderate somewhat to-morrow.
A rather intense cyclonic disturbance has moved from the north-west on to the North Island, the centre now being west of the Auckland Peninsula. Winds will be variable at first in the far north and otherwise south-easterly to southerly, moderate to strong generally and of gale force at many places from Cook Strait northward. Seas will be rough to high north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura and rather rough to rough elsewhere.
