effort for health stamp sale. HOUSE-TO-HOUSE COLLECTION. General business was discussed .at a well attended meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the Red Cross Society last night. Archdeacon G. H. Gavin pre- -j sided. Mrs. M. M. Arthur as delegate to a health stamp committee meeting reported on the part the members were to take in the special effort to sell health stamps during the five days from November 4 to November 9. A committee was formed to make a house-to-house effort to sell the stamps, said Mrs. Arthur. The Red Cross Society had been requested to supply canvassers. This was to be additional to the usual sale of stamps and to an effort to be made by a street stall in which Mesdames F. H. Waters, V. Kerr and W. H. Woodward had offered to assist. It was decided to purchase 10s worth of health stamps for the branch’s own use. A summary of work done at the hospital for October was sent to the society, reporting that five weekly visits were paid to 19 ex-servicemen, of whom 14 were still at hospital. Sixty-six pack- , - ets of cigarettes and 18, tins of tobacco, . also fruit, chocolate and biscuits, were distributed. : A letter was rechived from Mr. A. E. Veitch, honorary secretary of the New < I Zealand Red Cross Society, informing the branch that a motion was passed at • a recent meeting to .request that the competition 'for the Taranaki homenursing cup be abandoned for this year and that it be held a few weeks prior to the Collins Cup competition as an annual arrangement. It was decided to reply that the branch was entirely favourable. A vote of thanks was passed to the Ahititi-Okau-Tongaporutu branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union for a parcel of groceries, also to Mrs. Best and Mrs. Douglas for the use of their rooms, and to Messrs. J. Avery Ltd. for the donation of two large parcels of toys. An application will be made to the borough council for permission to hold the street day at an earlier date than last year.
