HAWERA Mrs. W. Howard returned from Raetihi during the week-end. Miss Ruth Pease is visiting Hawkes Bay, where she is staying with her sister, Mrs. L. Bishop. Miss Joan Mitchell, who was the guest of Miss Betty Stevens during the weekend, has returned to Palmerston North. / Mrs. J. Ekdahl and Miss P. Ekdahl returned from Wellington last week. Mrs.' Stanley Haybittie, Masterton, and her small daughter, who were the guests of Mrs. R. S. Haybittie, have returned to the Wairarapa. At a recent meeting of the music circle of the Hawera Womens Club Mis. V 7. G. Simpson was elected secretary a treasurer to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Miss B. Ryan. • Simpson was for five years secretary the circle before Miss Ryan took office last year.

Afternoon Tea Parties. Mrs. J. J. Pease chose a neatly fashioned green, white and black figured frock in which to entertain at tea on Wednesday afternoon. Tulips, in brig v hues and lilac were used to decorate the room. Mesdames J. Hawken, F. Vemon, R. P. Baigent, N. Lewes L. Norman, H. H. Bramwell, W. A. Fendall, Doig (Wanganui), C. Garanei, Meuli and Misses E. Buist and J. Powdrell were among the guests. An afternoon gown of commander blue with touches of lace was worn by Mrs. H. Jones on Friday afternoon, when she entertained Mesdames A. Smith, H. L Lovell, W. Fendall and Misses E. Buist and J. Powdrell at tea. Mesdames C. Tickner, C. Irvine. R. S. Haybittie and Baker were the guests of Mrs. A. Mitchell at tea on Friday afternoon. The hostess wore a navy frock relieved with pale rose.

The Misses E. and N. Elliott entertained at tea on Wednesday afternoon for their guest, Mrs. M. Wiltshire, New Plymouth. Mrs. Wiltshire wore a silk crepe, fleurita frock in a green and white floral design. One of the hostesses wore a maroon frock flecked with white and the other a bottle green frock with a floral tunic effect. Those present included Mrs. W. M. Thomson, Mrs. H. T. Lovell, Misses Frances Thomson, D. Richardson, Isobel Baker and P. Lovell. Twenty-first Birthday.

Misses Gladys and Audrey Duke were recently hostesses at a bright party to celebrate the twenty-first birthday of Miss T. Wolner. Miss Wolner, who was presented with a crystal gift, wore a malmaison pink, windswept satin frock with touches of turquoise. Miss Gladys Duke wore. plaid organdie and Miss Audrey Marina green phantom crepe.
