STRATFORD SPORTS
LABOUR DAY VENTURE. RUNNING, DANCING, CHOPPING. In the face of a perpetual drizzle which made the track heavy and the dancing platform so slippery that entrants often fell, a good number of people attended the sports day organised at Victoria Park, Stratford, yesterday by the Stratford branch of the Labour Party. The conditions affected entries but most events had good fields. Adults’ and children’s events and a baby show were features of a programme that included three chops. The officials were: Secretary, Mr. J. Kerr; timekeeper, Mr. W. Thomson; starter, Mr. F. Foley; running handicapper, Mr. A. E. Rickleben; chopping official, Mr. T. Kirkwood; baby judges, Sister Robertson and Nurse Workman (Stratford hospital); dancing judge, Mr. R. Macßae; steward, Mr. P. Brennan; sheep guessing, Mr. W. Holmes.
