Mr. R. C. Larsen, Matangi, formerly of Okato, is spending the holiday in Taranaki.

Mr. W. A. Sheat, president of the South Taranaki executive of the Farmers’ Union, is visiting Wellington.

Guests at the Criterion Hotel, New Plymouth, include Messrs. O. C. Krirnmer (Sydney), B. Krimener (Brisbane), H. G. Curran (London) and W. A. Boucher (Auckland).

Mr. C. Linwood, New Plymouth, has been advised by his employers, the Shell Oil Company, of his transfer to Napier. Mr. Linwood will leave New Plymouth in two or three weeks’ time.

The death has occurred of Mr. Stuart Bevan, K.C., a member of the House of Commons, says a London cable message. Mr. Bevan was Conservative member for Holborn since 1928. He was recorder of Bristol since 1932 and a Bencher of the Inner Temple.

Visitors at the North Egmont hostel at the week-end included Mr. and Mrs. T. Boyes Mr. and Mrs. Bainkmaq, Miss Bainkman, Mrs. Patten, Mr. Seivewright, Misses Robertson (2) (Wanganui), Miss R. List, Miss Croker, Miss Williamson (New Plymouth), Misses Ewart (Wellington) and Mr. and Mrs. Bone (New Plymouth).

Mr. L. H. Hammond, who' died at Hamilton recently, was formerly manager of the Bank of New Zealand at New Plymouth. Mr. Hammond took an active part in the work of St. Mary’s parish at New Plymouth, and during the service last night appropriate reference to him was made by the Ven. Archdeacon G. H. Gavin.

The death has occurred of Sir John Pybus, M.P., formerly Minister of Transport, at the age of 55, says a. United Press message from London. Sir John Pybus was connected with a number of British firms. He was chairman of the Phoenix Assurance Co., Ltd., and was a director of the Times Publishing Co. During a long political career he was Minister of Transport and served on numerous Parliamentary committees.
