FIELD DAY AT TOKO

/ DEMONSTRATION ON STOCK.

The Toko branch of the Farmers’ Union organised a field day at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Claridge on Friday. There was a good attendance of farmers and a number of women, as well as about 50 children from Toko and Htiinga schools. Mr. Claridge demonstrated the points of a number of his Ayrshire cattle, explaining that the “points” served to indicate the capacity of an animal to produce well over a long period. Mr. C. Sorensen, Mangorei, gave a talk on pigs. The children in particular showed their interest by plying the demonstrators with questions and by taking notes of what they learned. A cow' judging competition for which all the children entered was won by Jack Bishop (Toko), who was 3| points from the judge’s estimate. Charlie Lawrence (Toko) was second, four points from the judge’s estimate. In. another competition six cows were tied in a row-

and numbered, competitors having to estimate the amount of milk each cow gave on the last • testing day. Messrs. Gower and Geo, Were tied for first place and Miss Dorothy-Kay was second, -‘j After afternoon tea Mr. T. T. Murray, president of the branch, thanked Mr. and Mrs. Claridge for their hospitality and the demonstrators for their addresses. Mr. Harper expressed thanks on behalf of the children.
