WAVERLEY MEETING

FAIR FIELDS ENGAGED RURI’S CHANCE IN CUP REVIEW OF PROSPECTS (By "Hurry On.”) The annual gathering of the Waverley Racing Club will take place to-day. 'Die meeting, which is always popular, has drawn , horses from the Taranaki and Wanganui district. The one pool 75-25 system of betting will be in use. Proceedings will commence at noon with the

In his form of last May Ruaform would be a hot favourite, but his recent showings have been disappointing. However, he may have freshened during his short spell. Dombey has been schooling well but Kaola makes more appeal; he rarely runs a poor race. Spender is a possibility but Bay Sand and Chief Savage would need to improve on their Wanganui form to have a chance. Danzoff and Browned have no public form. Most support may come for KAOLA RUAFORM DOMBEY

Refresher’S work suggests that he will start in the Cup, leaving four starters. The Tiger may need the race, but Lady Kyra is a fit mare whose recent track work has been impressive. Limulus would only need to stage a return to his best form to be dangerous, while Moatoa seldom runs a bad race on this course. Backers may prefer LADY KYRA LIMULUS

After his good second to Oratory at Wanganui Supreme Court will have an army of supporters here. Nuget, Hinkey Pinkey and Autumn Leaf have pace, but Kia Ora’s second to Red Sand at New Plymouth in August reads well. Golden Rule was placed at the combined hunts’ meeting but she may not start. Kentucky Song, Chief Ranger, Bonny Glow, Matrimony and Chalice are all possibilities. The main fancies may be ' SUPREME COURT KIA ORA CHALICE

Though she has not raced for a considerable time Headmistress has been galloping so well at New Plymouth that she must have a good chance. Treasure Hunt is a much improved horse with recent form to recommend him. The Image and Mustang may be absentees but Prince Reno, who usually races well at Waverley, may show up. Red Fox and Middle appear the best of the lightweights. The popular selections may be TREASURE HUNT HEADMISTRESS RED FOX

Ruri is such a solid performer that he must be respected despite his weight. Aga Khan may need the race, but Gold Mission is a fit mare who should be capable of running the distance out. Refresher has been working well enough on the tracks and may prove capable of repeating his win of 1932. Carfex is an honest horse who ran a splendid race into third place behind Midian and Fersen at Wanganui. Silk Sox is in good order but‘the distance may trouble him. Lady Eka’s good effort behind Gay Boy at Wanganui has not been forgotten. The favourites may be . RURI GOLD MISSION . ■ REFRESHER

The easy tracks that have. prevailed lately have been all in favour of Sporting Song, whose second to Silver Brier at Wanganui represented good form. Bantry ran two solid races against good class horses at’ Ellerslie. Oriel is a doubtful starter, but Tahurangi is in great order. It is against him, however, that he is not a good traveller. If reserved, Lady Eka would have a great chance. Careful and Red Fox have galloped well enough to be possibilities. The main fancies may be BANTRY SPORTING SONG TAHURANGI

Gold Gleam has a solid weight but he is a wonderfully consistent performer in five furlong races. The Ark has plenty of pace and Collodian will be suited by the easy state of the going. All Spirit and Silk Sox do not appeal, but should he Win the maiden Supreme Court will be well backed. Red Sand galloped well enough at New Plymouth on Friday to have a winning chance. Good money may be forthcoming for GOLD GLEAM SUPREME COURT COLLODIAN
