The Wellington Racing Club’s spring meeting opened at Trentham in steady rain from the south but the weather lifted soon after the start and the remainder of the day was fine though cold. The attendance was only fair. The track was soft and slow. The totalisator handled £21,745 (win £10,817 and place £10,928), an increase of £4BB compared with the corresponding day last year. Arctic Star tried, to lead all the but tired crossing the last fence, Manawatu taking charge. Monastic camb with a great run on the inner but failed by a head. Black Duke was fourth. Time, 2.23.?. The placed horses, with Wild Chase and Moquette, were all prominent to the' straight, where Pelmet came through ,e on the rails to win by half a neck, with Gay Chief a neck, away and Moquette fourth.
