INCREASED SUBSIDY

RELIEF GOLD PROSPECTORS. ANNOUNCEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Special to News.) Wellington, Oct. 24. The subsidy paid to unemployed relief men engaged in gold prospecting is to be increased by half a crown a week from October 28. An announcement to this effect was made to-day by the Minister of Employment, the Hon. S. G. Smith. At present single men are paid 15s a week, and for married men the subsidy is 30s a week. From October 28 the rates will be 17s 6d and 32s 6d a week.
