SOFT SUGAR CANDY. Put one pound of soft brown sugar known as “pieces” into a saucepan with half a cupful of milk and a quarter of a teacupful of boiling water. Have ready a teacupful of shelled walnuts broken into pieces. Boil the sugar mixture until a little tried in cold water thickens to a soft ball. Remove the saucepan from the fire, beat the candy to cool it a little, then add ■ the walnuts, and beat again till it begins to set. Pour into a buttered tin, smooth out a little, and allow to set in a rough mass which can be broken up when cold.
