PRESIDENTS RETURN

WELCOME BY WOMEN’S CLUB. There was a good attendance of members at the Hawera Women’s Club on Wednesday night to welcome home the president, Mrs. W. A. O’Callaghan, who has been absent for eight months in England and on the Continent. Azalea mollis in pinks and golds, ixias and . other blooms made gay vases and bowls here and there, and there was generally an air of welcome and good cheer pervading. As senior vice-president Miss May Burgess, wearing a cocktail red matal-asse-gown diagonally striped in gold lame-thread, welcomed Mrs. O’Callaghan, incorporating in the welcome a brief reference to the splendid work bf Miss E. Caplen and Mrs. Alan Evans in her absence, and expressing the wish that she had returned to have a long term-as president. Mrs. O’Callaghan returned thanks, and at the unanimous request of members gave a reminiscent talk on her holiday in England and her tour on the Continent from Brussels, through Switzerland to Milan, thence to Rome, Venice, Florence and Austria, through the Black Forest, over German - territory, and thence by steamer up the Rhine to Holland, and once again across the Channel to England and Scotland. Mrs. G’Callaghan chose a frock of black mariette. over which she wore a short wrap-coat of steel grey fur. Mrs. A. Evans’ frock was fashioned in a paisley patterned georgette, and Miss E. Caplen wore a flowered georgette ensemble. Miss Constance Reilly sang several songs and with Mrs. W. W. Gibson she sang two duets. Mrs. A. M. Young played the accompaniments. Those present included Mesdames Evans, S. A. Chisholm, A. J. Corrigan, P. O. Veale, W. Adams, W. R. Shaw, Mills, A. Thomson, Guthrie, W. Hamilton, Owen, J. Houston, T. F.. McKenzie, H. R. Kemp, Wyborn (Wellington), E. Evans, G. H. Ryan, B. C. Lysaght, B. C. Bennett, G. A. Burgess, G. H. Mann, W. J. Bright, Moorehouse, Dickie, Woodward, Gerrard, A. E. Stevens, W. G. Simpson, W. W. Gibson, N. Lewes, R. R. Henderson, W. A. Duckworth, J. H. Fletcher, F. C. Livingston,. L. A, Ablett, A. M. Young, W, ,W- Thomas, H. G. Whitehead, H. D. Caplen and Livingstone, Misses C. Reilly, Glenn, Buchanan, McCall, Richardson, Kilpatrick (Dannevirke), E. Burgess, Power, McDonald, B. Ryan, McLean, Caplen, Knight, Crabb, Kirkpatrick and M. Thomson.
