FAREWELL AT HAWERA

An afternoon was held at Mrs. Robinson’s home, Wilson Street, on Tuesday, when several of her friends met to farewell Miss M. Cunningham, who will leave shortly for Dunedin after 14 years’ residence at Hawera. Mrs. H. Gibbes and Mrs. Robinson were joint hostesses. Mrs., Robinson wore a frock of floral maro-< cain in blue and white, while Mrs. Gibbes’ frock was of navy marocain patterned in little red and white flowers. Miss. Cunningham wore a dress of delphinium blue with a pattern of little grey and pink flowers. The afternoon was spent in competitions and card-playing. Prizes were won by Mrs. H. Chambers, Miss M. Brown and Mrs. E. Gray, while Mrs. J. McKinnon won a consolation prize. Mrs. Robinson presented Miss Cunningham with a handbag on behalf of those present. 'Among those present were Mesdames H. Gibbes, Bert Robinson, A. Brown, J. McKinnon, E. Gray, E. Nixon, H, Chambers, Misses M. Cunningham, 7 M. Brown, S. Gatenby, E. Flavell.

Naval Entertainment, Commander J. B. E. Hall and Mrs. Hall entertained at a delightful party on board H.M.S. Wellington last evening.’ Among the guests were Mesdames W. C. Weston, F. S. Varnham, C. H. Wynyard, F. S. Johns, J. S. Church, O. F. Mclntyre, F. ,L. Hunt, W. H. Quickfall; J. Pigott, D. E. Brown and A. E. Conway and Misses Gavin, C. Moyes and J. Pullen. Awakino Gift Afternoon. Mrs. Stanley Warren was the guest of honour at a gift afternoon on Tuesday, when between 50 and 60 women of the Awakino and Mokau districts assembled at the Awdkino hall. The supper-room was gay with bowls of flowers. Mrs. S. Warren wore a brown costume and Mrs. Warren senr., New Plymouth, a green crepe de soie frock with swagger coat. Doris Herbert presented Mrs.. Warren with a bouquet of crimson anemones. Vocal items were give - by Mrs. J. McNeice and Mrs.. Carrington, Mrs. T. V. Stein, Mrs. F. Widt, Mrs. Sullivan, Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Newton Taylor. After afternoon tea Mrs. MeNeice on behalf of those present asked Mrs. Warren to accept the gifts.
