APPEALS ALLOWED

DISMISSAL OF TRAMWAYMEN. CHRISTCHURCH BbARD’S DECISION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Tire Tramway Appeal Board’s judgment in appeals against dismissal by three tramwaymen was delivered this afternoon. Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., who presided, said the board had decided by a majority that the appeals should be allowed, but that the three appellants should be suspendid without pay from the time of their dismissal and again placed on the roster when the first vacancies occurred. The appellants were William Lewis, Frank George Buckley and Frederick James Mitchell. Before the board gave judgment Mr. C. Thomas, chief counsel for the appellants, said he would ’ like to make a statement regarding reports which had appeared in newspapers concerning the visit of a deputation to the Prime Minister this week. His clients knew nothing about it, nor was it known for what purpose the deputation had waited on Mr. Forbes. There had been some suggestion that his clients had been trying to get through “the back door,” but he hoped the board would understand that this was definitely not so. There was also some suggestion that the appellants had had solicitors sent to Wellington on their behalf, but this, too, was not true.
