OLD AGE RECORD?

20-YEAR-OLD HEN AT HUIROA. TWO EGGS LAID IN ONE DAY. Something of a record is claimed for a 20-year-old hen at Huiroa that laid two eggs in ohe day last week and followed that achievement with eight more eggs on successive days. The hen, a bantam, is on the farm of Mrs. Potroz, Huiroa. It was given to Mr. L. Potroz 16 years ago and it was four years old then. The hen is now sitting on the eggs she lajd at a time when most hens have gone into permanent retirement. In fact, a Stratford poultry breeder to whom the case was mentioned yesterday regarded it as phenomenal. He said the average poultryman kept pullets for only a year after they had commenced to lay and it was unusual for the useful life of a hen to extend beyond three or four years.

“It’s certainly some he:-.,” he said not without a certain awe. in his tone when the case was mentioned to him.
