APPOINTMENT OF LIBRARIAN.

GENERAL NEWS OF DISTRICT.

A meeting of the Auroa library committee was held on Tuesday. Mrs. Benton presided and proposed that the work done by the late librarian, Mrs. Buxton, in the general interest of the library, should be recorded.

Miss Eunice Lyndon was elected honorary librarian and the library committee undertook to assist in choosing books from time to time. ■ Tire president explained the proposed scheme for a national lending library and for rural libraries. A meeting of the Auroa Croquet Club was held on Tuesday. Mrs. King presided. It was decided to purchase two planks and blocks for seats for the green, and cups and saucers for afternoon teas. Competition day will be the first Saturday in each month. Arrangements were made for the regular mowing of the lawns. The annual meeting of the Rama Road Cricket Club was held at the home of Mr. C. A. Burke last week. Mr. A. J. Hastie presided over a good attendance. The report showed a successful year’s working and the balance-sheet showed a credit of £6 Ss 6d. Appreciation was expressed to Mr. B. Joll and to Mr. H. Wood for conveying, members to matches in their lorries. The women were thanked for providing afternoon teas and supper at the annual dance. It was regretted that five good members had left during the winter. Officers elected were: President, Mr. A. J. Hastie; vice-president, Mr. H. Wills; secretary, Mr. M. Burke; auditor, Mr. B. Joll; caretakers, Mr. E. Burke and Mr. G. Ingram; committee, Messrs. W. Phillips, W. Campbell, H. Sanderson and B. Trott.

The following new members were elected: Messrs. B. Shann, L. Simpson, R. Hastie, R. Ward and J. Thompson. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. C. A. Burke was thanked for the use of his home for the meeting and his grounds as a playing field. Mrs. H. R. Wood and Mrs. M. Langlands are in a . Manaia private hospital.
