FIGURES FOR NEW ZEALAND.

INCREASE IN NORTE ISLAND.

(By Telegraph.—Special Reporter). Wellington, October 15.

Figures published in the annual sheep returns tabled in the House of Representatives to-day show that the number of sheep in the Dominion on April 30 last was 29,076,754, an increase of 427,716 over the total on the corresponding day of the previous year.

The number in the South Island at April last was 13,327,738, as compared with 13,384,450 in 1934. This decrease of 56,712, however, was more than offset by the increase of 484,428 tor the North Island where there were 15,749,016 sheep last April as compared with 15,264,588 the year before. Figures for individual districts are as follows, last year’s totals being given in na rpn t h a *—- Auckland’ district: 3,114,575 (2,937,554). Poverty Bay-Hawkes Bay: 6,631,791 (6,496,846). Wellington-West Coast: 6,002,650 (5,830,188).

Marlborough-Nelson-Westland: 1,415,845 (1,390,158). Canterbury-Kaikoura: 5,544,510 (5,634,273).

Otago: 6,367,388 (6,360,019). Returns show, that the number of sheep owners increased by 438 to 30,238.
