TOKO DISTRICT NEWS

QUEEN CARNIVAL CONCERT. The Toko committee of the Stratford winter show queen carnival held a concert in the Coronation hall on Monday night. The stage was. decorated with bunches of lilac and the colours of Miss Mavis Tuck, the northern and eastern districts’ candidate, and the lighting scheme was very effective. , The first half of the programme consisted of items by local artists and a number of tap dances by the pupils of Miss Tui Macßae, Stratford. The second half was taken up with a one-act play bj a company from Kahouri Bridge which introduced many amusing local hits.

Supper was provided by the women's committee, followed by a dance. Music was played by Mr. Von Sturmer. Mr. Hann was master of ceremonies. Songs were sung by Miss P. Mackay, Miss R. Fetch and Master Trevor Rowe. Master John Vickers recited and items were given by the mouth-organ band (Messrs. Goldup, Anderson and Evershed).

“George White’s 1935 Scandals” to. be shown at the Eltham talkies to-night has something to please everyone. Bright, catchy music, brilliant solo and ballet dances, tuneful melodies, spectacular scenes and an array of the most beautiful girls in the world. The cast includes Alice Faye, James Dunne, Ned Sparks, Lydia Roberti, Cliff Edwards, Arline Judge, Eleanor Powell, Emma Dunn, Benny Rubin and many more. The story is that of the show world, but it has much amusing dialogue and hilarious scenes. The spectator has not time to tire of any part and one is whisked from one delightful scene to another, so that the interest and amusement is maintained from start to finish. The supports include a thrilling study of warfare in the insect world, an assault by ants on the dwelling of a colony of termites.
