YEAR AT VOGELTOWN

REVIEW OF ASSOCIATION WORK.

RATEPAYERS’ ANNUAL MEETING.

At the annual meeting of the Vogeltown Progressive Association on Tuesday night, Mr. W. F. Short presided over a fair attendance.

Meetings had been held regularly.during the year, stated the annual report, and the result had been useful work in improving the streets of the borough. Requests made to the council were considered and in most cases granted. Some works involving tarring streets which had been asked for were postponed until the summer because the new formation was not consolidated sufficiently. The poor support given the association by the people of Vogeltown was a disappointing feature of the year, particu- ‘ larly when it was considered that the association had done and was doing good work for the suburb. It was to be hoped the ratepayers would awake to the need of the association and become financial members, and those were thanked whose regular attendance had enabled the association to carry on. Reference was made to the formation of a central association. Thanks were accorded the borough council for its sympathy in giving favourable consideration to the association’s requests. The chairman said the Central Progressive Association had taken up the question of fire insurance rates. Parts of the borough other than the centre and Fitzroy were paying considerably higher rates, and he hoped Vogeltown and other districts would be placed in future on a more satisfactory basis. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £1 9s lOd. Officers elected were: President, Mr. W. F. Short; vice-president, Mr. H. E. Ayckbourn; executive committee, Messrs. R. Cocker, W. Bennett 1 and Kemp;?secretary and treasurer, Mr. T. Innes. The subscription was fixed at |srandthe district divided into blocks with, th e object of canvassing for members and arousing more interest in the association; Appreciation of the services of the president and secretary was expressed.
