TANGI PROHIBITED

DEATH AT TAIPOROHENUI PA.

TYPHOID DANGER THE REASON.

A general assembly of natives for a tangi at Taiporohenui was prohibited by the health authorities yesterday. The prohibition was a result of the recent typhoid outbreak, though the tangi was being held for a pneumonia case, that of a Maori child who died at the Hawera hospital on Tuesday. Only residents of the district have gathered for the ceremonies. The 13 typhoid patients at the Hawera hospital are all progressing satisfactorily and some are expected to be discharged next week. Health officers are still ensuring that precautions are taken in the affected areas. There have been no further cases in the last few days.
