APPROVAL OF LOAN

ADVICE TO HARBOUR BOARD.

WORK AT NEW PLYMOUTH.

Advice has been received that the Local Government LcSfes Board has approved the proposal or* the New Plymouth Harbour Board to raise a loan of £12,000 for widening and regrading Breakwater Road and for improving the approach to the port. Plans for the road work and for the railway reconstruction have been approved and it is intended to call tenders immediately. The undertaking, which will be put in train without delay, will necessitate ■the removal of many thousands of yards of earth. It will improve the port approach considerably for both road and rail traffic; because it will substitute a full chain width road for the present awkward bottle neck and it will enable new sidings to be constructed for the Newton King wharf, thus facilitating the handling of the increasing trade at the port.
