TAWA FLAT RAILWAY

AMENDING BILL IN HOUSE.

PROTECTION FOR THE BOARD.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night.

The Railway Amendment Bill was introduced by Governor-General’s message in the House of Representatives to-day. The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes explained that the Bill was intended to give the Railway Board protection in serving the districts of Ngaio, Khandallah and Johnsonville in view of the diversion of the main railway traffic from the existing line to the Tawa Flat deviation. The line to Johnsonville was to be electrified at a cost of £90,000, and it was desired to protect the board, give' it the sole right of serving the district and enable it to secure a reasonable return from operating the line. The Bill was read a first time.
