NO EVENT NEXT YEAR
C GRADE AND PIPE BANDS. TARANAKI UNION’S DECISION. There will be no contest next year for Taranaki C grade and pipe bands. That decision was made at Stratford last night by the executive of the Taranaki Brass and Pipe Bands’ Union. The executive met to consider a proposal that a Taranaki contest for Taranaki C grade brass and pipe bands be held at New Plymouth on the Friday of the New Zealand band contest weekTire Friday was the only day of the “week” available, it was stated and, while Friday was tlie busy day of the New Plymouth week, there was every chance that the attendance would not cover the cost in view of the fact that tlie finals of the higher grades would follow. An alternative plan for the C bands to enter in the B grade Dominion contest found no favour. “A C band could enter in the B grade if it wanted to,” remarked the chairman. There were present Messrs. P. Finlayson (chairman), A. L. Campbell (Eltham Pipe), A. Beesley (Eltham Brass), E. P. Aldridge (Stratford Pipe), C. Murfitt (Inglewood Bx-ass), J. R. McGrath (Patea Brass).
