Mrs. Bottler, who lias been the guest of her sister, Mrs. Chadwick, returned to her home at Miramar yesterday. Miss Tui Macßae, who has been at Wellington, has returned to Stratford.
Mrs. B. Bellringer, who has been spending some weeks at New Plymouth, has returned.
Miss Rhea Furrie has returned from a holiday visit to Huinga. Mrs. S. Pitt was “at home” to friends on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. W. Shaw, who has been a visitor to New Plymouth, has returned. Mrs. L. J. Furrie, who has been spending part of the term holiday at Waikanae, has returned. Mrs. S. Shaw, New Plymouth, is visiting her daughter, Mi's. £). Morris. Mrs. N. H. Moss, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. T. Grubb, at Norfolk Island, landed at Auckland on Thursday morning. The Portland Bridge Club met at the residence of Mrs. L. Jardine this week. Those playing were Mesdames J. Lyons, Jeffries, F. Uniacke, L. J. Furrie, Spence, D. Malone and D. Steven.
On Tuesday evening Mrs. Truby King entertained a few friends for bridge. Her guests Were Mesdames G. Hall, A. Budge, L. J. Furrie, J. Richards, J. Fredric, E. Rutherfurd and D. Steven. The combined banks’ first ball at Hawera On Thursday night was attended by a dumber of yOung Stratford people. They included Misses Betty Hale, M. Whittle, A. Hardy Jones. Rhea Furrie, Joan Coleman and Zoe Masters. Mrs. H. A. Gibbs and Miss Betty Gibbs, Patea, ate the guests of Mrs. C. Masters, Regan Street. The Stratford reading circle met at the home of Mrs. R. R. Tyrer on Thursday evening when the play “The Road House” was read. There were present Mrs. J. B. Richards, Mrs. R. B. Anderson, Mrs. E. S. Rutherfurd, Mrs. R. Newell and Miss Anderson.
Miss Joan Coleman was hostess at a bridge party on Wednesday afternoon. Her guests were Mesdames P. Harrison, P. J. Coleman (Eltham), C. Robb (Hawera), W. Farquhar, R. McDonald, H. Graham, A. Yarndley, Misses M. Bright, C. TonkS, S. Lovell, N. Duckworth, K. Coleman, M. Washer, A. Wills, J. Powdrell, P. Lovell (all of Hawera) and N. Spence. The prize for the highest Score was Won by Mi's. P. Harrison. A flag five hundred afternoon held in the Windsor rooms on Wednesday afternoon Was an enjoyable means of raising funds for the Stratford Croquet Club. Those at the winning table were Mesdames C. Masters, R. Carryer, Botter (Miramar) and Miss B. Gibbs (Patea). Mrs. E. Batten and Mrs/H. T. Cooper were hostesses on Tuesday night at a jolly Forty Club social evening, when the evening was pleasantly passed in dancing. Songs were sung by Mrs. C. Masters. The music for dancing was played by Mrs. Sait, Eltham. The hostesses received the guests, Mrs. CoopCr wearing a smartly cut frock of rust coloured matdlasse trimmed with gold lame and a black velvet coatee, while Mrs. Batten wore a gown of cherry red georgette and lace with matching coatee. Among those present were Mesdames F. Stephens, C. Masters, W. Liddell, Beale, H. A. Gibbs (Patea), E. Masters, R. MacRae, Hedge, Pepperill, Webber, C. Higgs, M. Hughson, J. Petrie and Miss Betty Gibbs.
