As neither Mrs. Fitzmaurice nor her children had been seen about their home in Trent Street since Tuesday, when they appeared quite well, investigations were made this morning by a neighbour with, the result that the woman and her three young children were found together in bed, the youngest child, a baby a few months old, lying dead in the arms of the' mother. / Mrs. Fitzmaurice and the other children were in a very bad condition. The mother was unable to give any explanation about the death of the child. The police were notified and medical aid was summoned. The woman and her two children were sent to the hospital.
The coroner ordered a post-mortem on the body of the baby. Everything in the house was in good order. There was plenty of food and money and the place was clean and tidy. The woman’s husband is working on relief in a camp at Kartigi and was thus absent from home at the time of the tragedy.
