MANAIA HOUSE BURNS

PARRY FAMILY LOSE HEAVILY.

THE FURNITURE NOT INSURED. A four-roomed house owned and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. J. Parry, Lower Glen Road, Manaia, was totally destroyed by fire on Wednesday. Mrs. Parry, after opening a gate for her husband, who was on the way to the factory, returned to the house and, on opening the door, discovered the house ablaze. The fire at this time apparently had a strong hold and, farmed by a strong south-easterly wind, quickly reduced the house to a mass of ruins. With the assistance of neighbours a quantity of personal belongings and furniture was rescued.

The origin of the fire is unknown. Mr. and Mrs. Parry are heavy losers, the furniture not being covered by insurance.
