40 CHILDREN IN ROOM

ALTON ACCOMMODATION TAXED. As there were 40 children in the senior room its accommodation was taxed to the full, reported the headmaster, Mr. A. Sadler, at the meeting of the Alton school committee this week. The number on the roll was 71. The entries for the home kitchen garden plot competition were promising. Entries in the calf-rearing event were not as strong as in previous years, but were still sufficient to warrant the holding of the competition.

Mr. H. Hodge and the headmaster were appointed delegates to the boys and girls’ clubs’ group meeting at Waverley. There were present Messrs. A. J. Gibbs (chairman), A. Illingworth (secretary), H. Hodge, A. J. Leigh and P. Goile.
