BOY SCOUTS AT TOKO

MR.’M. URQUHART HONOURED. An enjoyable evening was spent by the Toko boy scout troop and members of the group committee at a social given by Mr. and Mrs. M. Urquhart at their home, Gordon Road, on Friday night. Mr. Urquhart, who has worthily occupied the position as scoutmaster in the Toko district for the last seven or eight years, has found it necessary to resign on having been appointed assistant district commissioner. . . After a round of games and competitions had been thoroughly enjoyed supper was served. The tollowing toast list was honoured, Mr. Milne being chairman: “Chief Scout’* (Mrs. D. Clemow); “Scout Troop” (Assistant-Commissioner M. Urquhart—S.M. C. Vickers); “Cub Pack” (G.S.M. L. Milne—A.C.M. H. Goldup); “Scout Committee” (A.S.M. D. Rowe—Mr. W. Claridge). Scout Ted Caskey on behalf of the troop made a presentation to Mr. and Mrs. Urquhart. GENERAL ITEMS. Motor-Cyclist Injured. A collision between two motor-cycles in Bridge Street, Eltham, about 5 p.m. yesterday resulted in one of the riders, Mr. S. Wallace, receiving injuries to his head and a leg. The rider of the other cycle, Mr. E. Townsend, escaped injury. Mr. Wallace was riding in a westerly direction along Bridge Street when his machine skidded across the street and struck that of Mr. M. Townsend, who was riding in the opposite direction. Mr. Wallace’s cycle was slightly damaged. ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS. The annual dance to be held by the United Friendly Societies of Stratford in the Foresters’ hall to-morrow evening will also mark the conclusion of the societies’ card competition and the playoff between the Foresters and the Hibernians. The play-off will take place at 8 p.m. sharp. The Valencia dance band has been engaged to provide music for the dance. The candidates in the Stratford winter show queen carnival will be introduced to the public on Saturday at 7.45 p.m. by the Mayor, Mr. J. W. McMillan. The ceremony will take place outside the Municipal Buildings and in the town hall if wet. Broadway will be en fete for the occasion with decorated cars and bands parading. The annual ball of the Ngaere Tennis Club will be held on September 25 and preparations are at present under way to make the gathering one of the most memorable in the district. Vinsen’s Ambassadors will supply the music, novelty numbers will lend interest to the programme, and a first class supper will be provided. Free buses will run from Stratford and from Eltham. Schedules are now obtainable for the Eltham spring show, entries for which close on Monday, September 23. There are sections for cut flowers f pot plants, daffodils, decorative work, preserves, pickles, bread, cakes, cookery, knitting and home craft. Tire show iA on Wednesday, September 25, and schedules may be obtained from the secretary, Mr. A. W. Packard. (
