BENEFIT OF RATIONING PLAN.
REPLY to MR. T. H. McCOMBS.

I Mnk he might toe gmn US the teachers' viewpoint m a more practical way." In these words _ the Minister of Education, the Hon. s< Smith, referred to the speech made: yestprdav bv Mr. T. H. McCombs (Lab., Lyttelton) in which he criticised the Government’s educational policy. Mr. Smith said the Government had not saved £1,000.000 on education by making cuts, but the economies had to be effected simply because the money was not there. No other country had done as much for the unemployed teacher as New Zealand had done and no other country had been courageous enough to tackle the problem with rationing scheme, which in its application had been progressively The Minister -referred to Mi. Me Combs’ position in the House in succession to his mother and father and said that such a record might never again be put up by a New Zealand family. He mentioned that he himself had been pieceded in Parliament by his father.
