Prizes in the Happy Thought Art Union were drawn as follows to-day:— First prize, £2000: 114988, A. Hawke, South Road, Waimate. Second prize, £750: 117143, “Arolf,” Post Office, Parnell Third prize, £250: 69626, “Zane Grey, Newmarket, Auckland. Fourth' prize, £200: 55006, “I Got tne Blue,” Nightcaps. Fifth prize, £150: 108982, “Happy Thought,” Palmerston North. Sixth prize, £100: 96908, U. Hughes, Waiomatatini. ~ . Seventh prize, £5O: 66113, “Still Waiting, 39 Howe Street, Auckland. Eighth prize, £4O: 61544, “Arctic King,’ Wellington. Ninth prize, £3O: Mrs.' J. Clarke, 148 Renall Street, Masterton. Tenth prize, £2O: 165365, “Luck To-day, D. Bush, Trentham. w Eleventh prize, £10: 73599, “A Big Surprise,” Palmerston North. Consolation: 107442, A. McConn, Manakua. Terminal prizes: Two hundred £5 prizes go to the holders of tickets with the terminal numbers 988, and 200 £2 prizes to those with terminal numbers 143. Taranaki terminal prize winners are: “Old Bill and C 0.,” Hawera; Mrs. Keegan, Norfolk Road; Hochs Ltd., Inglewood; “Highley Pigley,” Manaia; G. Tuff, Brougham S'reet, New Plymouth; Two Pals,” New Plymouth; “Tui Para, New Plymouth. . . The winner of the first prize m the art union, Mr. A. Hawke, aged 42, is a married man with a daughter aged nine, e is a dairy farmer occupying 30 acres ana a returned soldier. At first he was.unable to believe good fortune. He intends to use the money to pay off the farm. . The ticket was purchased at the ast moment and he was. probably the last Waimate resident to buy a ticket. The winner of the third prize of £2oo in the art union is Mrs. L. Flashman, Newmarket, says an Auckland Press Association message. “I could hard!y - lieve it when I heard that Zane Gr y had won the third P rlze > , Flashman. The money could not have come at a better time, she added. Her husband owned a business and was badly m need of S“extra capital. All the prize money would go into the business.
