BOXING AT WEMBLEY
OLIN TO FIGHT JACK PETERSEN. WORLD’S TITLE AT STAKE. (By Air Mail—Special to News.) London, Aug. 15. If the men are allowed to carry out the plans they have made Bob Olin will put his world’s light heavyweight title at stake in a fight with Jack Petersen at Wembley stadium in the middle of September. Olin has not only accepted the terms offered, but has signed the contract and booked his passage from New York. He is to receive £3OOO free of income tax, and £5OO to meet his expenses, and in view of the fact that he could not hope to earn this sum from a fight at home he will not willingly let the opportunity slip. The American authorities have always endeavoured to keep their title fights at home and at the moment there is an obstacle to the Wembley match. It seems that Maxie Rosenbloom from whom Olin captured the title and John Henry Louis have issued challenges and that these have been accepted by the New York State Athletic Commission. The. intention was or is that the challengers should take part in a preliminary contest and that the winner should meet Clin. It is believed, however, that the commission will not insist on this arrangement being carried out. It is a body appointed by the Government and its only responsibility is to see that the rules are: observed. It has no financial interests and it is thought that it would be satisfied if Olin defends his title either at home or abroad. The representative of the Wembley stadium is at present at New York and is to have an interview with the chairman of the commission. Meanwhile, it has been suggested that Petersen should meet Camera, but there is no likelihood of this match being made. The Welshman is the British heavyweight champion but he scales only about 121st and it would be ridiculous to put him against one of the biggest men who has ever appeared in the ring. It was the weight factor which was chiefly responsible for both his defeats by the German, Walter Neusel.
